COMMUNITY ACCESS
Introduction
Community Access is a fully integrated package designed to work with Microsoft Windows 98, ME, NT4 and Windows 2000/XP. It has been written with Community Transport and Dial-A-Ride Operators in mind and we believe it is unique in the amount of information that can be stored, retrieved and viewed in the WYSIWYG format. Written by Micromaster and developed in conjunction with the Transport Section of Eastleigh Community Services. COMMUNITY ACCESS offers the choice of a fully automatic booking system while retaining the flexibility of a manual operation. New initiatives like MIDAS & PATS are also catered for in this exciting package and with constant updating and operator input, COMMUNITY ACCESS is destined to stay one step ahead of it’s rivals for many years to come.
When the idea to computerise the Transport Section of Eastleigh Community Services was first muted, exhaustive research found that although there were many software packages around, they were either tailored exclusively for Dial-A-Ride or Community Transport and not for those who operated both services side by side. Many were also extremely expensive and used obscure operating systems which tied the organisation to the software developer. It was decided to actively seek a firm of software developers who could start from scratch and without any preconceptions, develop software using Microsoft Windows as a platform that would not only work for Eastleigh Community Services, but for many other organisations who delivered community based transport. Micromaster, having been given the brief on what was expected, have developed an outstanding piece of software dispelling the belief of many operators that I have spoken to who have said “You cannot schedule passenger trips on a computer as well as you can manually with a sheet of paper and a pencil”.
This however, has not been achieved in an easy manner and it is to Micromaster's credit that their commitment to the project (especially in the early days), has never wavered despite the realisation that this was going to turn into a project far greater than originally planned.
Eastleigh Voluntary Transport Scheme went live in April 1996 with Eastleigh Dial-A-Ride following suit in January 1997.
