Eastleigh Visiting Scheme

Eastleigh Visiting Scheme is a free, confidential visiting scheme for older and isolated people living in the borough of Eastleigh. The service is provided by volunteers and operated by Eastleigh Volunteer Bureau. TimeBank, the national volunteering charity, has funded the scheme for its first year.

Referrals to the Visiting Scheme can be made by Health Service or Social Services professionals, or through local community, care or social groups. Referral forms are available from the Volunteer Bureau.

The role of the volunteer is to visit a client at home for up to two hours a week by mutual arrangement, to chat informally and discuss any issues or concerns that the client may have. Volunteers are not able to drive clients, take them out, or do jobs around the house or garden.

Volunteers are matched with a client for an initial eight-week period, so the commitment is not unending. Training, supervision and support is provided; expenses are paid, and Criminal Record Bureau checks are undertaken.
