What is the Millennium Volunteer Project?

The Eastleigh Millennium Volunteer Project (MV), operating across the borough, provides 16-24 year olds with the opportunity to get involved in voluntary work towards achieving an Award of Excellence.

MV Volunteer helps out at SLAMS the youth club for teenagers with special needs

How does it work?

The project’s philosophy is to ‘build on what you’re into’, volunteers choose to do whatever interests them from a wide choice of opportunities, or to establish projects of their own with support from MV staff.

What kind of things can you do?

Favourite activities include working with children, and projects around conservation, sports, media, art, drama and music. Two Millennium Volunteers have set up a youth club for young people with special needs and others are hoping to record a music CD.

Will my work be recognised?

MVs are given a certificate recognising 100 hours of volunteering activity and an Award of Excellence when they complete 200 hours. The Award is already helping young people to gain entry to university and the labour market.
