What is the Young Carers Project?

The project offers support in a variety of ways to young carers aged 11-21, living in the Borough of Eastleigh.

                How does it work?

The project provides one-to-one support, peer group support, information and advocacy to young carers.

                How do you define a young carer?

A young carer is a young person who looks after, or helps to look after, a family member who has a physical disability, learning disability, long-term illness, mental health or drug/alcohol abuse problem.

                What about older carers?

ECS also has a Carers Centre, providing support to carers in the borough of Eastleigh. The centre also provides a service in Romsey.

                How are young carers referred to the project?

Young carers can make direct contact with the centre, or they may be referred by another agency.

                Interesting facts

The project runs a young carers club night every 4 weeks and also arranges a group activity monthly. The Young carers Project is funded by Comic Relief until July 2005.
